Balcombe and Moorooduc Landcare Group
Balcombe and Moorooduc Landcare Group is a friendly and dynamic group on the Mornington Peninsula. The group is composed of community-minded volunteers from a range of backgrounds, whose aim is to improve the local environment by:
– Preserving local flora and fauna
– Promoting sustainable agriculture
– Controlling feral animals
– Controlling weeds
It is envisioned that the work being undertaken will help conserve our native wildlife. Our part of the Peninsula is blessed with some small surviving remnants of natural habitat. These remnants could support a remarkable array of fauna, including Southern Brown Bandicoot, Koalas, possums, antechinus, echidnas, native swamp rat, skinks and lizards and frogs. The creation of links allows creatures to move through the landscape, increasing the viability of their populations and the reducing the likelihood of local extinction.
Our projects include the “Balcombe Creek Habitat Project” which involves connecting children to nature through the creation of animal habitats along Balcombe Creek, Mt Martha.
We are now broadening the focus of the group, looking at assisting landholders in the region to improve the conservation value of their properties and learn about and implement best practice sustainable agriculture.
We welcome enquiries and new members.
