Working With Children

In planning Landcare events and activities, our organisers explicitly consider child safety. Events are planned and delivered to ensure child safety at all times with child safety actively monitored during events and activities. Landcare Victoria have prepared the following Child Safety Policy and Child Safety Guidelines.

The Mornington Peninsula Landcare Network strives to be Child Safe, with no tolerance for child abuse and a commitment to children’s best interests. Physical or sexual abuse of a child is a crime and will be reported to police, including grooming or sexual conduct with a child under the age of 16 years.

In order that these risks are managed effectively, groups need to consider child safety risks in their event and activity planning and actively work to mitigate any risks. Please check with your Landcare event organiser to check whether children are permitted at the specific event. If children U16 are permitted at a Landcare event, please ensure that they are accompanied by a responsible adult.

Working with Children Checks

The Working with Children Check is a screening process for assessing or re-assessing people who work with or care for children in Victoria. Working with Children checks are free for volunteers, and the application process should take just 15 minutes.

The process is relatively simple. You will need to:

  • Create or login to your Services Victoria account
  • Prove your identity with documents using your phone
  • Fill out the online form
  • Pay if you need to (note: volunteers are free)
  • Consent to Services Victoria passing your info on to do your check.

Reminder: All ongoing volunteers who work on any Parks Victoria Estate require a WWCC card, regardless of whether or not their specific role involves working with children. Parks Victoria has established this as a consistent, organization-wide measure to ensure they are meeting the Victorian Child Safe Standards across all of their public spaces.
