His career started off at the RSPCA as an Ambulance driver and after 12 months a position was created for him as a Animal rescue officer within the inspectors office. When his position was made redundant after 5 years\, Nigel decided to start his own animal rescue business. From there\, there is a 600m walk (or MCC Landcare buggy ride  to the planting site.\n\n\n\nThe plan for the day:\n\n8:30 am – 9:00 am: Sign in and walk to the planting site (~600m)\n9:00 am – 9:20 am: Briefing and planting demonstration**\n9:20 am – 12:00 pm: Planting lots and lots of trees\n\n– Morning tea break included\n\n\n\n** Note: We will begin the demo at 9:00am sharp\, however please allow at least 15 minutes for the walk from the carpark to the planting site (~600m).\n\n\n\nPlease bring: gloves\, sturdy footwear\, long pants\, and a long-sleeved (sun-smart) shirt. Also\, bring friends and drinking water!\n\n\n Tree planting involves digging\, bending and walking on uneven ground so you will need good physical fitness and mobility.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by: \nMt Martha Uniting Church | The Village Church Mt Eliza | St Marks Church of Mornington | Southern Mornington Peninsula Uniting Church | Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation \nEnquiries to Peter @ mtmarthahoughs@bigpond.com \n\n\n\n\nThe Uniting Churches of Port Phillip region in conjunction with Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation (MPKC) are hosting the 2024 2 day “Walk for a Cause.” This year the community walk will specifically seek to assist in conservation efforts for koalas. \nDAY 1 – We will walk along the Two Bays Trail where walkers will witness some of the amazing conservation work achieved by the volunteers from the Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation while experiencing some sensational scenery. \nToday is the longest day with some initial steady climbing on rough bush trails\, then great morning tea and lunch spots plus a mixture of scenic views and delightful bushland. A highlight will be the inspection of bushland replanted by Mornington Peninsula Koala Conservation volunteers. A 12 seater bus will be available throughout the day for walker transportation between critical accessible points including the conclusion at Bushrangers Bay Car Park. (Walker Own transport arrangements otherwise encouraged) \nRegistration to all events throughout the day is free and tickets have been broken down into the below 2 options. \nSeasoned walkers are invited to undertake the full trail with a core group whist others are invited to join for any of the options listed. \nPlease choose as many options as you would like to register for. We will assist the team from the MPKC in a major tree planting event at The Briars\, which will contribute to their ambitious target to plant over 25\,000 trees throughout 2024. All welcome! \nToday is a shorter family friendly day with a mixture of boardwalk and generally well maintained bushland trails with breakfast presentations from Mornington Peninaula Koala Conservation (MPKC) and BERG. We participate in The Briars (all ability) planting day with the MPKC and also enjoy the bush trails at The Briars. \nThe walk loop from Mt Martha Uniting church provides easy car parking for those wishing to complete the entire day. Similarly the Briars offers easy car parking options for those just joining us for planting\, lunch and the woodland walk there.
