SUMMARY:The Future of Farming
DESCRIPTION:Presented by the VFF Peninsula Branch\, The Future of Farming is a conversation festival about what’s reshaping how the Mornington Peninsula farms — and who gets to keep farming here. \nLand & Livelihood is the first of two events in the series\, focused on the hard conversations: green wedge zoning\, peri-urban land-use pressure\, data centres\, farm diversification and succession\, tourism\, and the community’s path forward. Seven forums\, one day\, straight talk. \nTickets https://events.humanitix.com/the-future-of-farming.

SUMMARY:The Bug Hunt for 'Bugs in My Backyard Week'
DESCRIPTION:There’s an entire world of tiny wildlife living right under our noses. \nOur backyards\, balconies\, gardens and local bushland are teeming with life – from bees\, butterflies and beetles to spiders\, snails\, worms and thousands of other invertebrates. \nAnd paying attention to what’s out there can help protect it. \nEvery extra set of eyes helps us understand our native wildlife – and can help spot invasive species early\, before they have the chance to spread and cause serious damage to nature. \nThat’s why I’m buzzing to share a fantastic citizen science program: Bug Hunt’s Bugs in My Backyard Week is back for another year\, running from 16–22 November! \nBug Hunt is run by the Invasive Species Council in partnership with Invertebrates Australia\, with support from Australian Geographic and the Australian Government Department of Agriculture\, Fisheries and Forestry. \nThis November\, we’re encouraging people right across Australia to help create a springtime snapshot of Australia’s bugs. \nAll you have to do to join the Bug Hunt is head into your backyard\, balcony\, schoolyard or local park\, snap photos of the spiders\, snails\, worms\, ants\, bees\, moths and butterflies you see\, and upload your observations to the Bugs in My Backyard Week 2026 iNaturalist project. \nWhether you’re 5 or 95\, everyone can be a bug detective! Every photo uploaded to iNaturalist helps experts better understand Australia’s native invertebrates and could even help spot an invasive species before it has the chance to establish and spread. \nLast year\, we were blown away by the response to our first-ever Bugs in My Backyard Week. In just seven days: \n\nMore than 5\,000 people submitted over 40\,000 observations.\n3\,083 different species were recorded.\n137 non-native and invasive species were recorded.\n\nBut this year\, we’re going bigger and better than ever! \nAnd that’s where you come in. \nWe’re teaming up with schools\, libraries\, councils\, botanic gardens and Landcare groups across the country to get even more people outside and bug-hunting. There’ll be competitions and prizes throughout the week\, activities for the kids\, and plenty of ways for you to get involved.

SUMMARY:Westernport Biosphere Foundation Annual General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to the Annual General Meeting of the Mornington Peninsula and Western Port Biosphere Foundation Ltd \nWhen: Thursday 26 November 2026\, 4.45pm for a 5pm start (concluding by 6.30pm) \nWhere: Somers Yacht Club\, Parklands Avenue\, Somers (ample parking onsite) \nOnline: Can’t join us in person? Online attendance is available\, and we’ll send you a link before the meeting. \nThis year’s AGM is more than a formal update. It’s a chance to hear directly from the staff and board working across the Biosphere Reserve\, around the shores and catchments of Wurnmarrinh (Western Port)\, pronounced WOOR-rrn-MUH-reeyn\, and to be part of the conversation about its future. \nWe’ll share the stories behind the past year: the partnerships formed\, the habitat restored and the communities engaged. Then we’ll look ahead to the projects and priorities shaping the reserve in the years to come\, including our work on biolinks\, the living corridors that reconnect fragmented landscapes so wildlife can move\, feed\, breed and adapt. \nThe agenda\, minutes of last year’s AGM\, proxy forms are available here. If you’re a member and can’t attend\, please consider lodging a proxy so your voice is still counted. \nRSVP by Thursday 19 November \nPlease register (for catering and to receive the online link) \nNot sure of your membership status? Email us at info@biosphere.org.au and we’ll check for you. \nWe look forward to welcoming you.
