SUMMARY:Farm Drone Demo
DESCRIPTION:Come along and see how drones can be used to minimise farm chemical inputs as well as inform decisions to create regenerative outcomes. This demonstration of cutting-edge drone technology promises to be an event not to be missed. \nLearn how drones are used to inform soil health decisions\, measure natural capital and identify landscape stress. \nUsing different types of drones to measure what the human eye cannot see so that remedial actions can be taken. \n9.30 am -10.00am Morning tea  \n10.00 am – 11.00 am Drone technology and software \n11.00 am -12.00 pm Drone flight demonstrations \n12.00 pm- 12.30 pm Q&A \nPresenter \nPresenter Luke Weekley of Falcon UAV will demonstrate a range of drones and how that information is analysed to create targeted inputs. Using GPS data to apply biological inputs only where they are needed automatically saves the land manager input costs. \nTopics \n1. Introduction to drones and applications in precision Ag \n2. Introduction to software and hardware for monitoring and interpreting crop stress\, heat zones\, weed types\, weed detection and variable precision spraying via tractor or drone \n3. Introduction to soil health and the importance of balancing structure/biology/nutrient \n4. Other opportunities in Ag Tech to maximise profit \nBBQ \nRed Hill Lions are providing a BBQ. Please advise of any dietary requirements. vffpen@gmail.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGET TICKETS

SUMMARY:The Ecological Significance of Mistletoe Webinar
DESCRIPTION:BirdLife Australia’s ACT-Yass Birds on Farms project is excited to invite you to our webinar on ‘The Ecological Importance of Mistletoe’. \nMention mistletoe and most people think of a parasitic pest that kills its host tree. But nothing can be further from the truth. With almost 100 native species in Australia\, mistletoe is an amazing little plant that punches high above its weight when it comes to supporting biodiversity. \nListen to experts Prof. Dave Watson (CSU) and Kristy Peters (BirdLife) as they discuss the ecological importance of mistletoe and its role in protecting the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater. \nJoin us on Wednesday August 9th at 7pm (AEST). \nJust click on the link to register.\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_a2dzgOqqSFOYcqCsWYU-OQ

SUMMARY:Dunns Creek Community Working Bee & Planting Day
DESCRIPTION:What: Annual Community working bee & BBQ to undertake weed control works in the Harrisons Road – Road Reserve. Plus\, this year: planting some native tube trees and shrubs\n\n\nWhy: The road reserve on Harrisons Road\, Dromana contains some of the best examples of remnant vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula.  As well as containing important habitat for many of our native species\, remnant vegetation on this road reserve provides essential links to other areas including Dromana Bushland Reserve\, Bald Hill and Arthurs Seat State Park. These links are essential for the ongoing conservation of biodiversity on the Mornington Peninsula. In addition\, the vegetation supports birds that eat the insects that attack our pastures.\n\n\nWhen: Saturday 15th July 8.30am until lunch. Meet in the Dromana Secondary College southern carpark. Come for just an hour if that’s all you have – that’s still great.\n\n\nWhat’s in it for me? \n1] Satisfaction that you have helped to maintain a weed free habitat for our native plants and animals. You’ve protected our environment. \n2] To have a laugh and a yarn with fun people. \n3] Pick up tips about our native vegetation and eradication of weeds from local experts. \n4] Turn up and be eligible for a free bird nesting box\, worth $60\, or rabbit control gear. \n5] Enjoy a good BBQ after our working bee\, commencing around 1pm\, meet and greet your neighbours from the district\, relax\, chat about your experiences. \nDunns Creek Landcare provides: Morning tea\, coffee and juice with freshly baked goods. BBQ of sausages\, lamb cutlets\, tomato sauce\, bread\, salads & fruit!    \nBYO: other food and drink of your choice.\n\n\nWhat do I do now? \nRSVP:  to let us know you can join us\, to give us an idea of numbers for food:   Email  dunnscreeklandcare@gmail.com   SMS: 0417 564 599 \nIf you have other commitments that morning\, just come for lunch to meet your neighbours. You’re welcome.\n\n\nAnything else? \n1] The BBQ. If you would like to assist with this instead of the working bee\, please contact as above. \n2] Bring gloves\, hat\, boots\, name badge\, teenagers and enthusiasm. We’ll have secateurs\, dabbers etc. If you have a favourite implement – bring it.

SUMMARY:Greens Bush to Arthurs Seat Biolink Community Planting Day
DESCRIPTION:We welcome the community to join us for our first Mornington Peninsula Landcare Network (MPLN) planting day on the 18th of June 2023 in Main Ridge. This planting day contributes to the Greens Bush to Arthur’s Seat Biolink project (GB2AS) that improves catchment health and provides landscape connectivity between significant areas of remnant vegetation. This decadal program is undertaking extensive revegetation\, weeding\, and protection of indigenous vegetation across private farm lands to improve biodiversity\, the survival chances of rare and endangered flora and fauna and agricultural productivity. As a result\, a biolink is being created between Greens Bush and Arthur’s seat. \nThrough holistic land management planning\, site specific local provenance tubestock species were selected for installation on farm land that is located in the biolink zone. To date\, revegetation has been undertaken on fifteen properties\, in partnership with local primary & secondary schools\, tertiary institutions\, Scouts and Girl Guides Australia and the wider community. A total of 830 volunteers have contributed to the planting of 27\,500 Indigenous plants and a further four properties are participating in this year’s planting. \nWhat to bring: BYO hat\, reusable cup\, gloves\, weather appropriate clothes and a water bottle. Landcare will supply all other tools and equipment for tree planting. \nRegister at Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/greens-bush-to-arthurs-seat-biolink-project-planting-day-in-main-ridge-tickets-651536111047
