SUMMARY:Sheepwash Creek Catchment Landcare Group - Working Bee
DESCRIPTION:Our last working bee\, before we break for the winter\, will be next Sunday. \nWe are going to visit the area where we first started working 11 years ago. It’s in the Arthurs Seat State Park \nDate: 5th May 2024 \nTime: 9:30 – 11:30 \nPlace: Meet at Mark and Michelle’s 451 Arthurs Seat Rd\, Red Hill 3937. \nPlease drive in through the gate and park on the grass or down the driveway. There is also some room on the front nature strip. We will walk from our house\, across the road and down the hill into the state park. Please be careful as it’s on an 80km/h road on a blind corner. \nWe would also like to show you a section on our property that we fenced off during covid lockdown in 2020. We have photos from that time to show you the difference only a few years can make. \nFor details or to register please contact Michelle de la Coeur at mdelacoeur@gmail.com

SUMMARY:GB2AS field day on pest management (feral cats and foxes)
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a Greens Bush to Arthurs Seat Biolink project (GB2AS) field day on pest\nmanagement (feral cats and foxes) at the Coolart Wetlands and Homestead. \nThis significant field day has brought together several leading national and local speakers: Kim Cott from Parks Victoria will discuss biodiversity and pest management within the GB2AS Biolink area; Gillian Basnett\, the National Cat and Fox Program Manager of the Centre for Invasive Species\, will talk about the impacts from feral cats and foxes and some national success stories; and Rod Brindley from Timber Scope will provide a talk and demonstration about the practical aspects of controlling feral cats and foxes. \nThe control of feral cats and foxes in the GB2AS Biolink area is critical for the protection of a wide range of native fauna\, including threatened species like White-footed Dunnart\, Swamp Skink & Lewins Rail. \nThe GB2AS Biolink project is an exciting initiative that aims to improve catchment health and\nprovide landscape connectivity between significant areas of remnant vegetation. This decadal\nprogram is undertaking extensive nature corridor revegetation\, pest control\, weeding\, and protection of indigenous vegetation across private farmlands to improve biodiversity\, the survival chances of rare and endangered wildlife and agricultural productivity. \nPlease RSVP by Tuesday the 9th of April at thomas@regeneratingfarms.com.au\nor call Thomas Kennett on 0499 596 493 with any questions. \nPlease do not attend if you are unwell. \nWhere: The Observatory\, Coolart Historic Area\, 40 Lord Somers Rd\, Somers \nWhen: Thursday 11th April 2024 \nTime: 09.00am – 09.30am: arrivals and morning tea\n09.30am – 12.00pm: MPLN\, Kim Cott and Gillian Basnett\n12.00pm-2.00pm: light lunch and Rod Brindley

SUMMARY:MP Farmers Discussion Group - Pest Management
DESCRIPTION:Pest (rabbit) management with Agriculture Victoria \nThe control of rabbits on farms is ongoing and important to stay up-to-date on\, which is why Agriculture Victoria’s leading Biosecurity Officer\, Annie Lamb\, will present the latest information on the topic. Annie will talk with you about rabbit control options\, landholder responsibilities under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 (CaLP) act and some information on foxes. There will also be information sheets on noxious weeds for everyone to take home. \nThis event will take place at the Eco Living Display Centre in the Briars and represents the first-of-two pest management events. In April\, a field day will be run with the Greens Bush to Arthurs Seat Biolink Project that focuses on foxes and feral cats. \nAgriculture Victoria is responsible for administering the CaLP Act\, which is the main article of legislation governing the management of invasive plants and animals in Victoria. For rabbits\, there are a range of control options that landholders can consider\, including: monitoring and coordinating with neighbours\, baiting\, warren ripping\, fumigating and trapping. \nThe CaLP Act does not endorse the use of ferrets\, however\, ferrets have been used traditionally for many years. Sharing some information and insights into this approach\, Clint Yorke from Ambush Vermin Solutions will provide a 30 minute discussion about the use of ferrets to control rabbits and will bring along his ferrets to add to the discussion. This will not be a live demonstration. \nFor all event information\, please see this email – a flyer will be sent in the reminder email. \nWhere:              The Briars “Eco Living Display Centre”\, 450 Nepean Hwy\, Mt Martha\, 3934\nWhen:               Thursday 14th March 2024\nTime:                 10.00am – 10.30am: arrivals and coffee/tea\n10.30am – 12.00pm: Ag Vic talk and presentation \n12-12.30/45: Ambush Vermin Solutions discussion \nTea\, coffee and some snacks will be provided (let me know of any food allergies). Check the weather and please bring your wet weather gear if needed. \nParking instructions:\nOnsite. \nPlease RSVP by Tuesday the 12th of March at thomas@regeneratingfarms.com.au or call Thomas on 0499 596 493 for any questions.

SUMMARY:Koonya Grassy Bowl Working Bee
DESCRIPTION:Blairgowrie Friends of Mornington Peninsula National Park is a group of local environmental volunteers who focus on improving the health of the MornPen National Park. We work closely with our local Parks Victoria rangers. \nBlairgowrie Friends have obtained a $22\,000 Melbourne Water Landcare grant to improve the environmental health and biodiversity of the Koonya Grassy Bowl in the National Park\, at the Koonya Ocean Beach end of Hughes Road\, Blairgowrie. The project is expected to take 3 years to complete. \nThe Koonya Bowl restoration project is supported and supervised by Parks Victoria and auspiced by Victorian Landcare. Work has commenced on weeding sections of the Bowl in order to create space for native grasses\, shrubs and trees. In autumn 2024 Blairgowrie Friends will spread locally-sourced seeds of native grasses and plants to improve the habitat for native animals and birds\, some of which are rare or threatened species. \nBlairgowrie Friends hope that all of the local residents and visitors to the Koonya Bowl region of the National Park will benefit from our work and that local people can get involved with us in our activities to protect the environment. An example is Rosebud Secondary College\, whose students are participating in the project as part of their curriculum. RSC has also received a Victorian Landcare Grant for this project. \nBlairgowrie Friends are keen to recruit more volunteers to assist\, so if you\, or anyone you know\, is interested to join with us\, we would like to hear from you. \nOur Facebook page is titled “Blairgowrie Friends of Mornington Peninsula National Park”. SUMMARY:Unlocking Your Farm Dam Potential
DESCRIPTION:Farm dams are essential to our thriving farms. They are more than just water reservoirs. Beyond providing reliable supplies of good-quality water\, your dam can be a biodiversity hotspot and help reduce your carbon footprint\, while unlocking financial opportunities. Planted-up dams can add to the productivity of your farm and help reduce the need for chemicals by adding natural\npredation with increased habitat. \nIn this seminar\, a team of scientists from Deakin University will talk about sustainable farm dams and their role for biodiversity and the carbon cycle. \n24 NOVEMBER | 10:00 AM – 1:30 PM \nTo register visit: https://events.humanitix.com/unlocking-your-farm-dam-s-potential
