SUMMARY:Dunns Creek Landcare Harrisons Road Working Bee
DESCRIPTION:Community working bee and BBQ\, Harrisons Road\, Dromana \nWhat: Annual Community working bee & BBQ to undertake weed control works in the Harrisons Road – Road Reserve. Plus\, this year: planting some native tube trees and shrubs \nWhy: The road reserve on Harrisons Road\, Dromana contains some of the best examples of remnant vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula.  As well as containing important habitat for many of our native species\, remnant vegetation on this road reserve provides essential links to other areas including Dromana Bushland Reserve\, Bald Hill and Arthurs Seat State Parks. These links are essential for the ongoing conservation of biodiversity on the Mornington Peninsula. In addition\, the vegetation supports birds that eat the insects that attack our pastures. \nWhen: Saturday 20th July 8.30am until lunch. Meet in the Dromana Secondary College southern carpark. Come for just an hour if that’s all you have – that’s still great. \nWhat’s in it for me? \n1] Satisfaction that you have helped to maintain a weed free habitat for our native plants and animals. You’ve protected our environment. \n2] To have a laugh and a yarn with fun people. \n3] Pick up tips about our native vegetation and eradication of weeds from local experts. \n4] Turn up and be eligible for a free bird nesting box\, worth $60\, or rabbit control gear. \n5] Enjoy a good BBQ after our working bee\, commencing around 1pm\, meet and greet your neighbours from the district\, relax\, chat about your experiences. \nDunns Creek Landcare provides: Morning tea\, coffee and juice with freshly baked goods. BBQ of sausages\, lamb cutlets\, burgers\, tomato sauce\, bread\, salads & fruit!   BYO: other drinks of your choice. \nWhat do I do now? RSVP:  to let us know you can join us\, to give us an idea of numbers for food:   Email:  dunnscreeklandcare@gmail.com   SMS: 0417 564 599  If you have other commitments that morning\, just come for lunch to meet your neighbours. You’re very welcome. Let’s build a community. \nAnything Else: \n1] The BBQ. If you would like to assist with this instead of the working bee\, please contact as above. \n2] Bring gloves\, hat\, boots\, name badge\, teenagers\, and enthusiasm. We’ll have secateurs\, dabbers etc. If you have a favourite implement – bring it.

SUMMARY:MP Farmer Discussion Group - Farm Design & Planning for Fire
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to our next MP farmer discussion with our local Country Fire Authority (CFA) on farm design and planning for fires. For this presentation and talk\, the Captain of the Rye Fire Brigade\, Eddie Matt\, will talk with us about a range of considerations that relate to the topic\, including farm design and planning for bush\, grass and mechanical fires\, the fire history on the Mornington Peninsula and the latest regulations surrounding fires and farming. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about how to design your farm to prevent and manage fires. \nFor farmers or land managers\, the CFA has developed a range of learning resources and there are farm fire safety legal obligations to be aware of. Resources include “Your Guide to Farm Fire Safety” and “On the Land”\, which provide agricultural fire management guidelines. From a legal perspective\, obligations include: the safety of all people living\, working\, or visiting your property; cutting the risk of starting unplanned fires\, particularly when operating machinery\, vehicles and equipment and controlling burns; preventing private power poles causing a fire; and access to the property\, assets and water for fire fighting purposes. This talk will cover the above and provide you with opportunities to ask questions that relate to your farm design. \nResources: \n\nOn the Land\, Agricultural Fire Management Guidelines\nYour Guide to Farm Fire Safety

SUMMARY:MP Koala Tree Planting - Mount Martha
DESCRIPTION:Come and spend the morning with us to plant 100s of koala food trees and other local trees and shrubs to increase koala habitat in the beautiful Mornington Peninsula town of Mount Martha. \nHabitat loss is the main reason for the decline of koalas and all our wildlife in general\, so let’s do something about it! \nThis is a great opportunity to learn about our environment and local wildlife\, including koalas\, while helping us to increase available habitat. \nIMPORTANT INFORMATION: \n\nWe will have a break for morning tea and will provide coffee\, tea\, milo and biscuits.\n\n\nPlease wear long pants and closed shoes (preferably waterproof) as we will be walking through bush and or grassy areas.\n\n\nBring your own hat\, gardening gloves\, water and snacks. We will provide all tools\n\nWe are planting on private property at 95-105 Range Road\, Mount Martha. SUMMARY:Greens Bush to Arthurs Seat Biolink Community Planting Day
DESCRIPTION:We welcome the community to join us for our first Mornington Peninsula Landcare Network\n(MPLN) planting day on the 16th of June 2024 in Main Ridge. \nThis planting day contributes to the Greens Bush to Arthur’s Seat Biolink project (GB2AS) that improves catchment health and provides landscape connectivity between significant areas of remnant vegetation. \nThis decadal program is undertaking extensive revegetation\, weeding\, and protection of indigenous vegetation across private farm lands to improve biodiversity\, the survival chances of rare and endangered flora and fauna and agricultural productivity. As a result\, a biolink is being created\nbetween Greens Bush and Arthur’s seat. \nThrough holistic land management planning\, site specific local provenance tubestock species were selected for installation on farm land that is located in the biolink zone. \nTo date\, revegetation has been undertaken on fifteen properties\, in partnership with local primary & secondary schools\, tertiary institutions\, Scouts and Girl Guides Australia and the wider community. A total of 1072 volunteers have contributed to the planting of ~34\,500 Indigenous plants and a further four properties are participating in this year’s planting. \nWhat to bring: BYO hat\, reusable cup\, gloves\, weather appropriate clothes and a water bottle. \nLandcare will supply all other tools and equipment for tree planting. \nWhere: 290 Main Creek Road\, Main Ridge\, 3928\nWhen: Sunday 16th June 2024\nTime: 9.00am – 12.00pm: introductions\, training and planting \nPlease RSVP by Friday the 14th of June to thomas@regeneratingfarms.com.au or\ncall Thomas Kennett on 0499 596 493 with any questions.

SUMMARY:Postponed - Wetland and Waterway Management on Farms - GB2AS Field Day
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to a Greens Bush to Arthurs Seat Biolink project (GB2AS) field day on waterway and wetland management on farms. This significant field day will host several leading national and local experts: Louise Kerferd from Melbourne Water will discuss waterway and wetland management within the GB2AS Biolink and Mornington Peninsula area; Peter Hazell and Erin Healy from The Mulloon Institute will talk about rehydrating catchments and\nmanaging waterways on farms; and Lance Lloyd from the Western Port Biosphere will discuss wetland management and water stewardship on farms. \nThe health of waterways and wetlands on farms is a key outcome of the GB2AS Biolink project that is implemented through land management planning\, revegetation\, weeding\, pest animal management\, fencing and community education activities. \nThe Mulloon Institute is recognised globally as a demonstrator of sustainable agriculture and environmental regeneration through landscape rehydration and restoration. The Institute demonstrates innovative land management approaches that create healthier landscapes with more resilience to climatic extremes. The Western Port Biosphere works with the community to create a sustainable future for Western Port\, which is done through research\, education\, community engagement\, partnerships and on-ground conservation efforts. \nPlease RSVP by Thursday the 23rd of May at thomas@regeneratingfarms.com.au\nor call Thomas Kennett on 0499 596 493 with any questions. \nDo not attend if you are unwell.

SUMMARY:Planting for the Devilbend Hastings Biolink with Balcombe and Moorooduc Landcare
DESCRIPTION:This will be Balcombe and Moorooduc Landcare’s second working bee for the year – a tree planting morning on a beautiful farm that neighbours with the Yabby Creek Vineyard and backs onto the Woods Bushland Reserve. \nWe will be helping the owner Marc to establish a large (20 acre) revegetation forest on his 120 acre property\, to encourage the native wildlife. We will be meeting there at 10 am to hear from Marc about his goals and plans for the farm\, followed by planting and finishing with a BBQ lunch. \nThe work will be in a gully which may be damp so please bring sturdy footwear\, appropriate weather gear\, and work gloves. Tools and equipment will be provided. \nIt will be an interesting morning\, especially working in with Marc towards his goal of re-creating from a mostly-bare gully to a native bushland for wildlife. \nPlease RSVP by the Sat 18th May for catering purposes. To RSVP contact BMLG group email bmlgcommittee@gmail.com or contact president Tony O’Connor on 0404 951500.
