SUMMARY:Develop an Integrated and Coordinated Pest Animal Program
DESCRIPTION:Invasive pest animals are a big problem impacting on biodiversity and catchment assets and farm productivity on the Mornington Peninsula. Whether its introduced predators such as foxes or feral cats\, or introduced herbivivores such as rabbits or deer\, it is important to have a strategic approach to pest management. \nThe strategic approach promotes coordinated action that aims to reduce the damage caused by pests to an acceptable level in order to achieve a desired outcome (e.g. improved agricultural production or to conserve biodiversity). \nLearn about the key principles that form the basis of the strategic approach in order to plan and carry out pest animal management: \n\nWhat is a pest?\nIs eradication possible?\nA whole of system approach\nPlanning and Monitoring\n\nThrough this process of defining what the pest problem is and working out what outcome stakeholders want as a result of doing pest management\, you will have the skills to implement an effective plan of action to manage pest animal damage. \nCost: Free – coffee and morning tea provided. \nBookings essential: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/develop-a-coordinated-and-integrated-pest-animal-project-tickets-1112277504959?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPartnering to tackle Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program.

SUMMARY:The Bradley Method of Sensitive Weed Control
DESCRIPTION:Joan and Eileen Bradley developed a series of weed control and native vegetation recovery techniques know as the ‘Bradley method’. It involves methodically clearing small areas in and around healthy native vegetation so that each area is re-colonised by the regeneration of native plants\, replacing the weeds. The process showed that\, once native vegetation was re-established\, continuing weed control was needed infrequently. \nThe essence of these principles guides modern bush regeneration today\, taking into account modern techniques and the need for appropriate ecological disturbance to trigger regeneration. \nDuring this practical workshop delivered by EcoSkils\, you will learn the story and sensitive weeding techniques of the ‘eccentric’ Bradley sisters\, the early pioneers of bush regeneration and a movement that radicalised the battle against one of the greatest and oldest enemies of the Australian bush: invasive weeds. \nPlease wear suitable clothing for the weather and conditions\, including hat\, sunscreen\, long sleeves with colar\, gardening gloves\, and sturdy closed footwear. \nThere will be coffee and morning tea provided. \nCost: Free \nRegistrations: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/the-bradley-method-of-sensitive-weed-control-tickets-1112168549069?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPartnering to tackle Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program.
