SUMMARY:Develop an Integrated and Coordinated Pest Animal Program
DESCRIPTION:Invasive pest animals are a big problem impacting on biodiversity and catchment assets and farm productivity on the Mornington Peninsula. Whether its introduced predators such as foxes or feral cats\, or introduced herbivivores such as rabbits or deer\, it is important to have a strategic approach to pest management. \nThe strategic approach promotes coordinated action that aims to reduce the damage caused by pests to an acceptable level in order to achieve a desired outcome (e.g. improved agricultural production or to conserve biodiversity). \nLearn about the key principles that form the basis of the strategic approach in order to plan and carry out pest animal management: \n\nWhat is a pest?\nIs eradication possible?\nA whole of system approach\nPlanning and Monitoring\n\nThrough this process of defining what the pest problem is and working out what outcome stakeholders want as a result of doing pest management\, you will have the skills to implement an effective plan of action to manage pest animal damage. \nCost: Free – coffee and morning tea provided. \nBookings essential: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/develop-a-coordinated-and-integrated-pest-animal-project-tickets-1112277504959?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPartnering to tackle Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program.

SUMMARY:The Bradley Method of Sensitive Weed Control
DESCRIPTION:Joan and Eileen Bradley developed a series of weed control and native vegetation recovery techniques know as the ‘Bradley method’. It involves methodically clearing small areas in and around healthy native vegetation so that each area is re-colonised by the regeneration of native plants\, replacing the weeds. The process showed that\, once native vegetation was re-established\, continuing weed control was needed infrequently. \nThe essence of these principles guides modern bush regeneration today\, taking into account modern techniques and the need for appropriate ecological disturbance to trigger regeneration. \nDuring this practical workshop delivered by EcoSkils\, you will learn the story and sensitive weeding techniques of the ‘eccentric’ Bradley sisters\, the early pioneers of bush regeneration and a movement that radicalised the battle against one of the greatest and oldest enemies of the Australian bush: invasive weeds. \nPlease wear suitable clothing for the weather and conditions\, including hat\, sunscreen\, long sleeves with colar\, gardening gloves\, and sturdy closed footwear. \nThere will be coffee and morning tea provided. \nCost: Free \nRegistrations: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/the-bradley-method-of-sensitive-weed-control-tickets-1112168549069?aff=oddtdtcreator \nPartnering to tackle Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program.

SUMMARY:How to Develop a Weed Management Plan
DESCRIPTION:Without an effective plan of attack\, the task of controlling weeds can seem overwhelming. This workshop provides a practical approach to help landholders determine what’s achievable\, where to start\, and how to develop an ongoing strategy for managing environmental weeds on their property. \nThe outcomes of environmental weed management can be substantially improved by approaching the task with a plan. A well thought-out plan that takes a strategic approach can make weed management tasks easier\, more achievable and can result in significant savings of time\, effort and money. \nDelivered by EcoSkills\, this workshop will help you to gain the knowledge and skills to create a well thought out Weed Management Plan for your property\, from setting goals\, priorities to timing\, methodology\, and monitoring for adaptive management. \nPresented by the Mornington Peninsula Landcare Network as part of the ‘Partnering Against Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach’ project. \nPlease wear suitable clothing for the weather and conditions\, including hat\, sunscreen and sturdy closed footwear. \nThere will be coffee and morning tea provided. \nCost: Free \nPartnering to tackle Pests on the Peninsula – a Landcare approach is supported by the Victorian Government through the Partnerships Against Pests program. \nRegister for your free ticket here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/how-to-develop-a-well-thought-out-weed-management-plan-tickets-1112135409949?aff=oddtdtcreator

SUMMARY:Dunns Creek Landcare Harrisons Road Working Bee
DESCRIPTION:Community working bee and BBQ\, Harrisons Road\, Dromana \nWhat: Annual Community working bee & BBQ to undertake weed control works in the Harrisons Road – Road Reserve. Plus\, this year: planting some native tube trees and shrubs \nWhy: The road reserve on Harrisons Road\, Dromana contains some of the best examples of remnant vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula.  As well as containing important habitat for many of our native species\, remnant vegetation on this road reserve provides essential links to other areas including Dromana Bushland Reserve\, Bald Hill and Arthurs Seat State Parks. These links are essential for the ongoing conservation of biodiversity on the Mornington Peninsula. In addition\, the vegetation supports birds that eat the insects that attack our pastures. \nWhen: Saturday 20th July 8.30am until lunch. Meet in the Dromana Secondary College southern carpark. Come for just an hour if that’s all you have – that’s still great. \nWhat’s in it for me? \n1] Satisfaction that you have helped to maintain a weed free habitat for our native plants and animals. You’ve protected our environment. \n2] To have a laugh and a yarn with fun people. \n3] Pick up tips about our native vegetation and eradication of weeds from local experts. \n4] Turn up and be eligible for a free bird nesting box\, worth $60\, or rabbit control gear. \n5] Enjoy a good BBQ after our working bee\, commencing around 1pm\, meet and greet your neighbours from the district\, relax\, chat about your experiences. \nDunns Creek Landcare provides: Morning tea\, coffee and juice with freshly baked goods. SUMMARY:Dunns Creek Community Working Bee & Planting Day
DESCRIPTION:What: Annual Community working bee & BBQ to undertake weed control works in the Harrisons Road – Road Reserve. Plus\, this year: planting some native tube trees and shrubs\n\n\nWhy: The road reserve on Harrisons Road\, Dromana contains some of the best examples of remnant vegetation on the Mornington Peninsula.  As well as containing important habitat for many of our native species\, remnant vegetation on this road reserve provides essential links to other areas including Dromana Bushland Reserve\, Bald Hill and Arthurs Seat State Park. These links are essential for the ongoing conservation of biodiversity on the Mornington Peninsula. In addition\, the vegetation supports birds that eat the insects that attack our pastures.\n\n\nWhen: Saturday 15th July 8.30am until lunch. Meet in the Dromana Secondary College southern carpark. Come for just an hour if that’s all you have – that’s still great.\n\n\nWhat’s in it for me? \n1] Satisfaction that you have helped to maintain a weed free habitat for our native plants and animals.
